Embracing a Balanced Diet

Embracing a Balanced Diet

When we hear the word “diet,” many of us immediately think of restriction, hunger, and giving up our favorite foods. But what if dieting didn’t have to mean deprivation? In my upcoming cookbook, Dieting without Deprivation, I aim to shift the narrative from what you can’t have to what you can enjoy.

Why Balance Matters

A balanced diet ensures that you get all the necessary nutrients your body needs to function optimally. It’s not about cutting out entire food groups but rather about incorporating a variety of foods in the right proportions. This approach not only supports your physical health but also your mental well-being.

Practical Tips for a Balanced Diet

  1. Incorporate Variety: Make your meals colorful by including a range of fruits and vegetables. Different colors often mean different nutrients, so mix it up!
  2. Portion Control: You don’t have to eliminate your favorite foods. Instead, enjoy them in moderation and balance them with healthier options.
  3. Mindful Eating: Pay attention to your hunger and fullness cues. Eating slowly and savoring your food can help prevent overeating.

  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • A handful of walnuts (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan, bring your liquid of choice to a boil.
  2. Add the oats and reduce the heat to a simmer.
  3. Stir in the diced apple and cinnamon. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Once the oats are cooked and the apples are tender, remove from heat.
